Reverse Osmosis Machine - Groundwater

Students will be engineers as they manipulate a model desalination plant while evaluating the balance between feed water going into the system and the amount of concentrate and permeate water produced from the system. 

Learning Objectives

  • Learn the process of water desalination through reverse osmosis
  •  Evaluate the volume of permeate water and concentrate water that can be produced from a certain volume of feed (raw) water.
  • Evaluate the conductivity of the water source and the two water products of desalination

Back to the Future - Stormwater

An activity that allows students to analyze stream flow by monitoring data to determine safe and beneficial locations for a growing community.

  • Analyze and interpret stream flow data.
  • Identify the risks and benefits of development in a floodplain.

Urban Waters - Wastewater

Students will learn about different water resource occupations as well as the steps of the Urban Water Cycle.  They will be able to place them in a sequence, from source water to delivery into homes, focusing on water’s use treatment and return to the source.

  • Explain the major components of the urban water cycle (source water, water treatment, water use, wastewater treatment and return to nature.
  • Describe various water resource careers.
  • Sequence water- related occupations involved in the urban water cycle.
